1. Summary
RTO heat storage combustion furnace (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer, RTO), is an advanced waste gas treatment equipment, especially suitable for the treatment of medium and high concentration of organic waste gas. It can oxidize the organic matter (VOCs) in the waste gas into the corresponding carbon dioxide and water at high temperature, realize the purification of the waste gas, and recover the heat released by the decomposition of the waste gas, so as to achieve the dual effect of energy saving and environmental protection.
2. Operational Principle
The working principle of RTO heat storage combustion furnace mainly includes three stages: preheating, combustion and cooling.
Preheating stage: the exhaust gas enters the RTO system through the induced draft fan, and first preheat through the heat exchanger, so that the exhaust gas temperature rises to the starting temperature required for the catalytic oxidation. In this process, part of the waste gas is recovered by the preheater and returned to the furnace, which improves the thermal efficiency.
Combustion stage: When the exhaust gas reaches the set temperature, the control system will automatically switch to the combustion mode. At this point, the high temperature gas in the oxidation chamber is mixed with oxygen to conduct the oxidation reaction. In this process, the organic matter is oxidized and decomposed into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor. At the same time, the ceramic heat accumulator in the furnace absorbs and stores a large amount of heat for the subsequent heat recovery.
Cooling stage: the oxidized waste gas is heat exchanged through the heat exchanger, transferring the heat to the fresh organic waste gas, so that it reaches the starting temperature required for catalytic oxidation. Then, the exhaust gas goes into the chimney to discharge. In this process, the ceramic heat storage body releases the stored heat and realizes the recycling of energy.

Retention time: the residence time of waste gas in the furnace is usually set between 1-2s to ensure the full oxidation and decomposition of waste gas.
Switching air volume: The switching air volume is usually set between 30% -50% to ensure the stable temperature in the furnace.
Number of burner: determine the quantity of burner according to the amount of treated exhaust gas and furnace size to improve the heat utilization rate in the furnace.
